Fields of Fire: Gettysburg's First Day Farms

Wednesday July 1

Other dates...

10:00 AM  –  11:30 AM

Join historians Jim Hessler, Andrew Dalton, and Phil Spaugy for an in-depth exploration of three farms—Harmon, Forney, and McClean—at the heart of the Battle of Gettysburg’s first day.

Spread across the fields west and north of town, these properties were swept up in the first waves of fighting on July 1, 1863—from the morning clash along Willoughby’s Run, to the fierce contest for Oak Hill and beyond.

Blending compelling human stories with battle action, this program examines not only the combat that unfolded across these landscapes, but also the experiences of the families who lived there and saw their homes transformed by war. The program will be followed by a book signing with the presenters.

Registration is required.  Gettysburg History Members are $10 and General Admission (non-members) are $20.  The event will be held at Beyond the Battle Museum, 625 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg in the upstairs event center.
