On July 2, 1863, an unassuming rocky hill in Gettysburg witnessed perhaps the most famous counterattack of the Civil War. On Little Round Top, Union Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain led the 20th Maine to victory over the Confederate forces, repelling the rebels with a fierce bayonet charge. Through their bravery and bloodshed, Little Round Top would be forever enshrined in American history.

Using early maps, illustrations, and photographs, historian Timothy H. Smith will explore the history of this iconic Gettysburg battlefield location — from its humble beginnings to the profound impact it continues to have on visitors today.

The discussion will be held Saturday, October 17th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Battlefield Overlook Event Center, 625 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg.
