McAllister's Mill Walking Tour
This event is no longer on sale.
Established by Samuel Gettys by the 1760s, the original mill was replaced by a large stone edifice in the 1790s. In 1822 James McAllister came into possession of the mill and the property around it. Abolitionist rallies were held at the mill as early as 1836, where McAllister and others voiced their opposition to slavery. At some point, the McAllisters took matters into their own hands, operated one of the best documented stations along the “Underground Railroad in Adams County. Join the Adams County Historical Society, as we walk the McAllister property and visit the site of the historic mill, and learn here the story of this remarkable family.
Please note that the route for this walk will cover approx. one mile of uneven ground.
