Melted Away: A History of the National Civil War Wax Museum
The former “National Civil War Wax Museum” on Steinwehr Avenue, visited by more than 9 million visitors during its 50 year run, closed in 2014. In this presentation, Glenn Corbett will discuss the role of historically-themed wax museums in “edutainment,” featuring Gettysburg’s own museum that opened in 1962. He will trace the design, development, and operation of the Gettysburg museum using never-seen archival materials and images. Two former tenants of the museum will be in attendance for selfies!
