The Love Story of Jack Skelley and Jennie Wade
The death of Jennie Wade, a young woman killed while baking bread on the morning of July 3, 1863, is one of the most told civilians stories of the battle. Often told alongside the story of her tragic death is that of her romance with Johnston H. Skelly, Jr. of Company F, 87th Pennsylvania Volunteers. And although the exact truth of their relationship may never be known, new evidence continues to surface. Join historian Timothy H. Smith as he attempts to sort fact from fiction and analyze the true circumstances of the love story of Jack and Jennie.
