Have you ever wondered what it was like to sit for a photograph during the Civil War? Now is your chance to experience it for yourself. Join expert photographer and historian Robert Szabo at the historic Shriver House Museum on Baltimore Street to have your own tintype portrait made using the historic photographic process of the Civil War era. As your portrait is created, Szabo will demonstrate the process and explain how photographers produced some of the most iconic images of 19th-century America. Best of all, you’ll leave with your one-of-a-kind tintype to keep.

This unique opportunity will be offered rain or shine inside a tent in the Shriver House Garden at 307 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg on November 18-19, 2026. The photos will be taken from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Please select a time slot below. One photo will be taken per time slot; however, please keep your group to a maximum of 4 people per photo due to limited space. Period attire will not be provided or required, so feel free to come dressed in clothing of any era for your photograph. Original tintypes will take time to dry/prepare after your appointment, so please plan to return at 4:00pm each day for your finished image.
